*Sunny Sunday Selling*

Well yesterday was an absolutely lovely day, I can't believe what a difference the sun shining makes!
It was an absolutely gorgeously sunny and warm day. I found my stall at the end of the market and I wasn't even joined on to other stalls, so that was lovely to have so much room around me! There is my little stall above!

This was the view to the side of me!

And this was the view diagonally from me!

The whole village had lots and lots of bunting up, and there was Punch and Judy and a band and I think other things going on but I didn't get a chance to see them!

And this this beauty was a vintage bus that was taking people about and stops right in front of my stall all day and cheered me up no end all day!!!!

There were quite a lot of people about and shopping on the morning but everyone seems to disappear about 1 ish ~ gone for some lovely Sunday lunch no doubt, and so the afternoon was quiet, but I did well with sales on the morning so it wasn't so bad at all!

The stalls that were near me were *Xocolatyl* & *The Moody Baker* both selling delicious things, but I didn't partake in any of them ~ my holidays are fast approaching and so I really had to think of my waistline (unfortunately)!

I was pleased with the day overall, especially as I sold one of my large heart chalkboards and a french style distressed iron welcome sign! I loved both these items and so I love it when the things I especially love sell! (Is that a little crazy)!

At the end of a glorious day it was topped off by them asking me if I would like a permanent position at the market, which I was incredibly grateful for as there is a large waiting list, but I am unsure if I am going to take it! The market is lovely and full of great stalls, as they only allow stalls that make their own goods ~ no bought in goods are allowed (unless their apperance is greatly altered!!!) which is fantastic in this day and age, but I'm not sure if I want to continue doing the craft markets.
At the moment I am currently in thought about changing direction a bit and so I don't want to sign up for anymore markets and then end up having to continue what I am/was doing and really regretting it in a few months time, so at this point I don't think I will take up their offer, although I was incredibly grateful to them!

Anyhoot all in all it was an absolutely delightful day!

*Getting Ready for Market*

I'm attending a Farmers Market tomorrow in Middleton in Teesdale, so I've spent today getting everything ready, oh and making a few extras!
I've never done this one before (*eek*) so I don't really know what to expect!
If the weather stays nice, it should be lovely as Middleton in Teesdale is a pretty place, and I've been to the market before and there are lots of lovely stalls selling delicious things! I must remember I'm trying to lose weight for my holidays though and not be tempted by all the yummy scrummy things! To help I'm packing us up a picnic lunch which will be just as nice of course! Really anything eaten outside is fun enough for me ~ I'm a simple girl! *Tee hee*

The weather today has been lovely, sunny and warm, there have been a few dark clouds floating by, but at least no rain! *Yay*!
Hope the weather has been good to you today too, and I hope you are all having a fun weekend!
*Happy Saturday*

*Oh Summer Where Art Thou?*

Ok, so I'm so sorry for not posting much this week, I don't really know what happened, but I think it is because we've been concentrating on our holidays!!! *Yay* holidays!
So anyhoot, we are off to Hamburg in 3 weeks and in 5 weeks we are off to Bulgaria!

But need I say anything about this summer, or lack of, we are having here in the UK at the mo?!? I can't believe it is the end of July already!
Now I love the rain, I find rainy days magical for some reason, but I feel as if the summer is just slipping away from me this year. I feel as if we haven't done anything lovely and summery at all, and that makes me sad!

Plus have you noticed that all the shops seem to be getting rid of all their summer items and all the autumn things have appeared, is it usually this early?
Well I suppose it's great for bargain hunting though, I've picked up lots of lovely summer bargains, but I am definitely feeling that Autumn is rushing towards me at a great speed! (Well that isn't all bad I suppose, as I do *love* Autumn, all those lovely colours, leaves, scarves ... ooohh stop it now, it's July!!!)

Anyhoo, I thought I would post this lovely summery bunting picture that I took a couple of years ago in Somerset, to cheer us all up!
Ta ta for now.

*Magical*

Last night in the rain, cold and dark I went to get my copy of the lastest and last Harry Potter book!
We were met by a witch at the book store, asked if we had our ticket, then we joined the queue. We queued, we sang the Hogwarts Song, we queued, we swore an oath not to reveal the ending, we queued ... then we counted down ..... it was 12.01am on the 21st July 2007!
We queued excitedly ... then finally .... it was handed over to me in a bright orange paper bag with red ribbon handles!!!!!!

(I'm afraid that's it for today, as I have a book to read don't you know!)

*Victoria Sponge Day*

*Kimberley* asked about the Victoria Sponge Cake recipe that I used in my *Lazy Hazy Sunny Sunday Day* post, so today I thought I would do a Victoria Sponge Cake post!
First of all, the lovely recipe I used for that cake was kindly supplied by *Jennifer from Buttercups & Roses* and I have to agree with her, this recipe is the best I've come across, its fab ~ easy to do and very yummy!!! So thank you Jennifer!

So here is the recipe.

Ingredients:
*6oz Self raising flour
*6oz caster sugar
*6oz Soft butter
*3 free range/organic eggs

Method:
1.Put all the ingredients in a bowl together and whisk until smooth
2.Line 2 tins with grease proof paper and fill each with half of the mixture 3.Cook in oven at 180 for 15 to 20 mins 4.Turn out and allow to cool on a rack
Once cooled I filled mine with Butter Icing and lovely strawberry jam.
Here is the recipe for the Butter Icing I used:

Ingredients:
140g/5oz butter, softened
280g/10oz icing sugar
1-2 tbsp milk

Method:
1. Beat the butter in a large bowl until soft. Add half the icing sugar and beat until smooth.
2. Then add the remaining icing sugar with one tablespoon of the milk.
3. Beat until creamy.
4. Add extra icing sugar to thicken or a little extra milk to make more runny if necessary.

Alternatively, you could fill with fresh whipped cream and lots of strawberries.

About the Victoria Sponge

The Victoria Sponge is also known as a Victoria Sandwich Cake and less commonly, Victorian cake – was named after Queen Victoria, who favoured a slice of the sponge cake with her afternoon tea. It is often referred to simply as sponge cake, though it contains additional fat.
A traditional Victoria sponge consists of jam and whipped cream sandwiched between two sponge cakes; the top of the cake is not iced or decorated.
A Victoria sponge is made in two main ways. The traditional method involves creaming caster sugar with fat (usually butter, although margarine can also be used), mixing thoroughly with beaten egg, then folding flour and raising agent into the mixture. The modern method, using an electric mixer or food processor, involves simply whisking all the ingredients together until creamy. In the latter case, a little extra raising agent is normally used, and some recipes call for an extra-soft butter or margarine. Both are relatively quick and simple, producing consistent results, making this type of mixture one of the most popular for children and people in a hurry. This basic ‘cake’ mixture has been made into an endless variety of treats and puddings, including fairy cakes, butterfly cakes, chocolate cake, Eve’s pudding and many others.

Alternative Recipes:

Jane Ashers Classic Victoria Sponge

Ingredients
4 eggs
225g softened unsalted butter
225g caster sugar
225g self-raising flour
½ tsp vanilla essence
To decorate strawberry jam whipped cream caster sugar

Method
1. Pre-heat the oven to 180C/gas 4. Grease and line two 20cm sandwich tins.
2. Combine the butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat it hard with a wooden spoon or an electric mixer until pale and fluffy, like whipped cream.
3. Break the eggs into small bowl and add the vanilla extract. Beat the mixture lightly with a fork.
4. With the mixer running on full speed add the egg very gradually to the butter/sugar mixture. It's important to do this slowly and gradually, to stop the mixture curdling. Once all the eggs are in, fold in the flour with a spatula or large spoon. The mixture should now be of a dropping consistency, so add a drop of water if it's too thick.
5. With a spatula or large spoon scoop half the mixture into each of the two sandwich tins. Transfer to the centre of the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes until well risen and golden brown. To check they are cooked, slide a sharp knife blade into the centre of the sponge - the knife should come out clean.
6. Remove from the oven and leave the cakes in the tins to cool for a couple of minutes. Turn out onto a cooling rack and leave to cool completely before decorating.
7. Once the cakes are completely cool, spread the jam onto one half and the whipped cream onto the other. Sandwich them together and dust the top with caster sugar.

Delia's All-in-one Sponge Cake with Raspberry and Mascarpone Cream

Ingredients

For the sponge: 6 oz (175 g) self-raising flour
1 rounded teaspoon baking powder
3 large eggs
6 oz (175 g) caster sugar
6 oz (175 g) butter, very soft at room temperature
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For the filling: 8 oz (225 g) raspberries
3-4 tablespoons soft set raspberry jam
1 x 250 g tub mascarpone
1 x 200 ml tub fromage frais
1 level tablespoon caster sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
To serve: a little icing sugar

Method
Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 3, 325°F (170°C). You will also need two 8 inch (20 cm) 1½ inch (4 cm) deep sponge tins, lightly greased and lined with silicone paper (baking parchment).

Take a very large mixing bowl. Measure the flour and baking powder into a sieve and sift into a bowl, holding the sieve quite high to give the flour a good airing as it goes down.
Now all you do is simply add all the other sponge ingredients to the bowl and, provided the butter is really soft, you just go in with an electric hand whisk and whisk everything together until you have a smooth, well-combined mixture. This will take 1 minute but, if you don't have an electric hand whisk, you can use a wooden spoon with a bit more effort.
What you now end up with is a mixture that drops easily off a spoon when you give it a tap on the side of the bowl. If it does seem a little too stiff, add 1-2 tablespoons of tap water and mix again. Now divide the mixture between the two tins, level it out and place on the centre shelf of the oven.
It will take 30-35 minutes to cook – don't open the oven door until 30 minutes have elapsed.
To test if they are cooked or not, touch the centre lightly with your little finger; if it leaves no impression and springs back, the sponge is cooked. Next, remove them from the oven then wait for about 5 minutes before turning them out on to a wire cooling rack.

Carefully peel off the base papers, leave the sponges to get completely cold, then add the filling.
For the filling, combine the mascarpone and fromage frais in a bowl; a balloon whisk will amalgamate them quicker.
Add the level tablespoon of sugar and one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Now spread one tablespoon of jam over one of the sponge cakes, follow this with half the cream mixture then scatter the raspberries all over that.
Now add the remaining cream mixture and drizzle it with the rest of the jam. Place the second sponge cake on top.
Press very lightly to sandwich everything together, then lightly dust the cake with icing sugar before serving.

*Sadness & Birthday Wishes*

The sadness is due to it being the anniversary of the day my Nana passed away.
I was very close to my nana, and miss her everyday. I think she is the reason I love the shabby 50's style so much and all things deliciously vintage, as her house was filled with great things, she wasn't one for a 'perfect' house, she preferred much more to spend her time reading, oh and she loved all things yummy & delicious too! *Tee Hee*

I always remember us going through her jewellery, clothes and shoes and me loving everything and trying things on, and I always remember the time she gave me one of her old 'faux' pearl necklaces when I was a young teenager, and I adored it and thought it was the best thing ever!
I wore it often as I got older in my late teens as I got into vintage clothes and accessories.
I still have it, I have it placed over my dressing mirror along with a few other necklaces I have of hers too, and so I see them every day ~ so much better than them being tucked away in boxes and they look so pretty too draped over my vintage mirror.

I wish she could see the woman I have grown into, see the house where I live, and see that I finally did marry James. I wish she could see the influence she has had on my life and the things I love. I wish I didn't miss her so much.

***

On a brighter note, it's my friend Lisa's birthday today! Hurray!
So I hope that all her birthday wishes come true.
Lisa is an artist and sells some of her work at The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle, you can see some of her work *here*.
*Happy Birthday Lisa*

*Cleaning & Garlic Tea!*

Well today I've been trying to get back to normal after this pesky cold I've had for the last few weeks!!!

I even did some yoga this morning, but boy was I tired after only a few stretches and so didn't over do it!

I also seemed to have a cleaning frenzy going on today too, I just wanted to clean clean clean!
I felt as if I had neglected the house and that it just 'felt' dirty and needed a good clean, I'm always like this when I've been ill, I feel as if the whole house is full of germs and 'illness smog' and that it needs a good clear & clean ~ does anyone else ever feel like this???

So I got to work cleaning and washing! I've even been down on my hands and knees washing the skirting boards and woodwork ~ eek, I'm always amazed (well disgusted really) how dirty skirting boards can get! But they look sparkling now!!!

I also made up a batch of home-made medicine (well garlic tea~ sounds worse that it actually is!) to try and shift this horrible mucus and cough that doesn't seem to be going!

If anyone is interested in the recipe here it is:

Garlic Tea Recipe

In a large saucepan, bring 3 cups of water and 3 cloves of garlic (cut in half) to a boil. Turn off the heat when the water boils, and add 1/2 cup of honey and 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice. Strain. Sip 1/2 cup, warm, three times a day. Refrigerate extra to use the next day.

Hope you like today's photo too. It's a Flash advert from an old 'Woman' magazine from January 1959!!! I love old magazines from the 50's and 60's. I love to buy them and read the articles, they are so quaint and gay, and generally make me giggle, and the adverts are just the most colourful and delightful.
I must share with you more pictures and some articles from some of my mags, they are just
fantabulous!

Anyhoot, hope you all had a marvelous Monday!
Ta ta for now.

*I've Been Tagged*

*Jennifer from Buttercups & Roses* has very kindly tagged me, thank you!

So here are 8 Random things about me!

1. I'm vegetarian but allergic to mushrooms! (I love mushrooms ~ but I just can't eat them, or anything that has had mushrooms in it or on it, however tiny. I once picked a few off a pizza ~ but no, was still incredibly ill!!!) So eating out can be an incredible chore for me!

2. I have 2 older sisters, one 10 years older and one almost 13 years older ~ I have 4 nieces, the oldest being 24 and and the youngest being 15, and so I am closer in age to my oldest niece than I am to either one of my sisters.

3. I don't like coffee ~ never have, never will! But love coffee centred chocolates!!!

4. I adore *Calvin & Hobbes!* They make me *giggle* so much and they are both such cutie patooties!

5. My husband and I were married in a 'secret' wedding Christmas Eve morning 2004 ~ we didn't tell anyone we were doing it apart from 2 friends that we took as our witnesses! (James proposed to me Christmas Day 2003).

6. I have done a course in Crystal Healing and I'm also a Reiki Master!

7. I love the Sea! I mean I really love the sea, I can just sit and stare and stare and listen to the waves and never get fed up ~ EVER! (Well I actually do this in the countryside too!!!! I love Nature!!!!)

8. I am completely nutty about *The Wicker Man* (The Edward Woodward version that is)! I love the film, I have the soundtrack, I have the book and I'm completely insane about it! There is nothing better to cheer one up than singing along to 'The Landlords Daughter' loudly!!!!

9. I sing 'little songs' a lot ~ and I mean a lot, and not 'proper songs' just little songs I make up ~ about anything, random things, things that I'm doing, if I'm happy, if I'm sad, anytime I will probably have a little ditty about it!

10.I used to have very long bright blonde hair ~ I now have a short brown choppy bob!!!

Ok, so now I have to find another 8 people to tag!
Boy, I think this will be a job! I will try my best!
Hey if you haven't been tagged yet, leave a message here and I will tag you!!!

*A Fond Farewell ...*

I have bid a fond farewell to the craft market I used to attend once a month in town!

(Sorry I think this is going to be a long rant of a post today!)

I have attended for a year with a friend, we shared a stall as we both sold jewellery, and 10 feet of table is a lot to fill with jewellery, so we decided to share and have a 5ft table each, which worked well as we both did different style jewellery and presented it differently which complimented each other.

It went very well I used to sell generally 15 items a day and made between £100-£120 each market! But then a few months ago the market allowed another handcrafted jewellery stall attend, which my friend wasn't happy about at all, and it was around this time that I decided to sell the 'Vintage' side of Vintage Amethyst and bring along handcrafted homewares in a french, country, shabby style, which I had previously also sold on the internet, so this wasn't a big change for me really, and have this alongside my jewellery, and so wanted to get a stall of my own as I thought it would be best.

Anyhoo we discussed this with the market managers, and they said 'well instead of getting another tent (stall) why not use the wasted space that we don't use in our tent at the moment but of course if I wanted I could have a stall of my own, it was up to us'! So my friend and I thought it was a good idea to still share as it kept our costs down, which is what we did for a few months. But last month we decided to get a stall each as my friend had expanded her range into bags too. I must point out at this point that another jewellery stall had been allowed to attend the market in the meantime too!

So I put my application form in, only to be told the next day that I wouldn't be allowed to sell jewellery as it isn't fair to the other stall holders, and that my other items would also have to be checked to make sure there wasn't anything too similar to what is already being sold!!!! Hmmmmmm, now the problem I had was this, I had been selling jewellery from the very start, and yet they had allowed other jewellery stalls to attend, but now I wanted a stall of my own I was the one going to be the one penalised!
Also if they had any problems with what I was selling on my 'own' stall, why didn't they just check over the 3 months I had actually been selling it!!!! I was furious to say the least!

I contacted them and told them that I didn't want to attend anymore as if I couldn't sell jewellery it didn't make any financial sense to me to continue, to which the solution that they gave was that my friends and my stall be together so that they looked like one stall and that I place my jewellery to one side so that it looks like it is part of her jewellery range, so as not to upset the other stall holders!!!
Now for one, is this concept all about face? ~ Bizarre!
And two, with no distrespect to my friend, I want my jewellery to be recognised that it is handcrafted by myself and part of the 'Vintage Amethyst' range, and not anyone elses, is this so wrong!?!

So I made the desicion to bid farewell to our towns craft market, as I also had issues with how they (or don't to be more precise) advertise it! ( A year on people still didn't realise it was a monthly craft market ~ all they had to do was put a couple of big signs up around it on the day saying monthly craft market on today and every second friday of the month ~ surely!)

So all in all, I feel this was the right decision at the right time, so after all this ranting and annoyance why a fond farewell?
Beacuse I have enjoyed my year with the monthly Craft Market, and will miss my time spent there with the other stall holders, and I've met some great people, but I do feel this is the right time to leave and the right decision for me & Vintage Amethyst.

Oh and if you're wondering what the picture above it is, it's an old photo of our town and where the market is held ~ to the right alongside the right of the tram!

*The Hungry Hungry Caterpillars*

Some very naughty caterpillars have taken up residence on our willow tree and are eating all the leaves!!!!

Just look at how naughty they are!!!!

I've just done a search on the internet about it and apparently, as far as I can gather, we have to pick them all off!!!

They are very naughty indeed!!!

*Lazy Hazy Sunny Sunday Day*

*Hurray* the sun was shinning it's sunny shiny face on us today!

Unfortunately James and I are both still suffering from this cold (yes I passed it on to him, but I'm on my way to recovery now *yay*) and so had to have a lazy day, which was lovely all the same!

Fed up of doing nothing, but not really being able to do alot, we decided to make a Victoria Sponge Cake! We finally both managed it but then had to have a nap to regain our lost energy!!!
When we finally came around, we mustered up enough energy to make some cheese scones, so we had a lovely tea-time treat of tiny cream cheese sandwiches, delicious cheese scones and our nice big Victoria Sponge! Mmmmmmm *yummy*!
(Notice how much filling is in the cake, I'm blaming my lack of judgement because of this cold! Also we won't be able to share any of it as obviously we don't want to be passing on our cold ~ tee hee!!!)
So altogether it's been a lovely lazy hazy sunny Sunday Day!
*Happy Sunday everyone*

*Performers in the Rain*

Here are the pictures of the performers that were at the market last week which I promised!

The above one is of a huge big scottish bag piper on stilts, I loved his costume, he was really funny too and at one point had 2 old ladies racing each other in their shopmobility wheelies! That caused quite a crowd! I just could never get a good picture of him though!

These are some stilt walkers that were about.

This was a copperman, good job he had his brolly!

These Gargoyles were really funny, but I only managed to capture the lady Gargoyle on camera! The above 2 photos were taken quite a way from me, but she saw me trying to take a photo and so she stopped and posed for me! *Tee hee*

This last one was taken at my stall, she came over to see me and look at my wares so I took another photo of her and she very kindly posed again!
These were funny to watch as they kept standing still and people just didn't see them and the amount of people that screamed when they started moving again was really funny!!! One lady walked towards them not realising and then when they started to move she got such a fright she screamed but then walked back in the direction she had come as she didn't want to go near them! Bless her!

I enjoyed the performers, they gave me a giggle on an otherwise miserable day! It was just a shame I didn't get to see them all though!

*Sunday Market*

At last I have finally got around to posting some pictures of the market last Sunday!!!
These ones are just of my stall, I will post the others of the performers in another post I think, as it seemed to take me ages to put these ones on as I have a fuzzy head as I have a horrid cold, which I think *Becky from Tabbydashery*must have given me as she had a cold on Sunday!!!
*Giggle*

Anyhoo there is my stall in the above one, and here are a few closeups of it.

This seems to be the chalkboard side!!!

This is the middle!

And this is the Jewellery side!!!

I wasn't happy with the layout on Sunday, don't ask me why, I just didn't seem to like it and where-ever I put things it just didn't look good!!!! *Frown*

This is a photo from my stall looking downwards at the others as you can see it is rainy and no-one is shopping!! If you look closely you can see the gargoyles which were part of the street performers and were fab!
In the front just walking up is Becky from Tabbydashery, yes the very one who has made me ill, methinks! *Smile*

Anyhoo I'm off to wallow in my own misery with some tissue and some eucalyptus for a bit, ta ta for now!
